Monument Day at School

Caroline's third grade class has been studying our national monuments and symbols. The big finale is "Monument Day." That was today.

She knew right away that she wanted to be a bald eagle. I bought a long sleeve black shirt at Target and had my mom sew the better part of two black boas on the sleeves. (Because I couldn't sew a button, much less a feathery boa, if you put a gun to my head...)
Black leggings, bright yellow soccer socks, a little black tape, and some white feathers later- she was good to go. Oh, I forgot to mention the bird beak...after a trip to Michael's, Party City, the big orange Halloween tent in the mall parking lot, and Wal-Mart...I called a professional costume store (who knew we even had one) and they had a 2.99 bird beak thank goodness. I spent triple that in gas driving to the aforementioned stores.

So here she is...

the eagle has landed.

I'm thinking I'll save the costume and sell it for a hundred bucks to a desperate procrastinating mother of a third grader next year.....bwahahahahahahaha....

I wish I looked like that in leggings....

I'm always scouring these photos for how messy my house might look to you guys....

It's actually a "Crow's Beak", but I forgot to mention that to her...

Have a lovely weekend. And come see us in St.Louis tomorrow. The eagle will be there...

Hi there! My name is Lauren and I was at a Girls of Grace conference years ago, when you and Heather brought your newborns on stage. Now look at how big and beautiful she is. Since then, I have become a teacher and I teach 2nd grade at a Christian school in South Florida. I love this idea and I just might have to steal it :)

On another note, I have been listening to your music since I was a little girl. My oldest sister gave me a cassette of your first album and I felt closer to God listening to it (this was before I was saved at 13). I still listen often and, as a newlywed, love trying your recipes!

Thank you for your ministry, it has meant a lot to me! God Bless!

Great job Mom! She is adorable!
