Your Weekly Encouragement from Point of Grace

on August 22, 2011

Shelley says...

The need to be loved is one of our strongest emotional longings. When we're feeling bad about ourselves, or left out and alone, what we crave is affirmation and acceptance. We usually look to other people for this-coworkers, family members, friends at school, or people at church. And often times we do get love and acceptance from these people-but not always, and not always enough. Even those of us who seem super confidant most of the time are insecure. You never know when you're gonna get sucker-punched, and feel betrayed or broken down.

On the road, I meet so many people who feel like they don't quite measure up. Maybe they think they're not smart enough, pretty enough, or funny enough. Whatever they feel is lacking, it's always measured by what other people think and not what God thinks.
I always want to tell them, especially the kids (but it's true for all of us), "Who cares if you're not the most popular or if you don't have the 'right' friends?? You were designed by God, and yes, HE loves you more than anything-and that's enough. When and if you ever truly internalize this truth and live it, it will transform your life.

The good news is this- as God's children, we can hold our heads up high, knowing that our identity comes from Him. He created us just the way we are. On purpose. And there is a good and prosperous plan for each of us!

Romans 15:7- Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

Have a great week,
Shelley

Today, after such a long time I listened to your songs and read your message and finally felt encouraged to leave a reply. I have to agree that all of us need to be loved and accepted and when it doesn't happen, we feel horrible. But our problem as you, Shelley, said is that we have great expectations and we just throw them on ordinary people who surround us and most of the times we get hurt as we are not perceived or even accepted for those who we have loved and considered important. But the only one who can fill up the gap in our hearts and make us feel important, loved, give importance to our needs before we tell them is Jesus Christ. It's just good to remember that Adam didn't know he was alone in the garden. God realised it and gave him a woman to help him take care of the garden. HE IS OUR MAIN NEED. We look for him everywhere until we find out it was him we needed all the time. And thus what is left is giving Him our life, our love, our future, our mind, our soul... Everything.

Just what I needed to read. I am a new visitor to your website...just today. I really needed to read this today. The Lord definitely guided me here to your site. I began at a new church last November 2010 and I haven't made too many friends. I'm a shy person, but I really put myself out there to meet new people at a bible study class I joined, which was really getting out of my comfort zone. Well...unfortunately no one wants to know me. And after reading the blog from Shelley 8/22/11, I realized that is exactly what I'm doing wrong. I'm looking for acceptance and love from people and not my Lord and Savior! I need to be identifying with Him who gave himself up for me! This has encouraged me to pray for friends and to accept others as they are. We are all truly Gods workmanship. And if God is working in me, then He is at work in my brothers and sisters in Christ! Amen. God bless you all richly in Christ Jesus. Rashel

Hallelujah for that! I needed to read something like this. I was very blessed.

Good to know that God loves me and that the value I have is the value of Christ in me.
